Breeding the Red-whiskered Bulbul - Part 2

Monday, 25th August 2008
The sole chick from the first nest was removed for hand-feeding last Saturday. Today, just 2 days later, when the chick is only 8 days old, the parents have already started to rebuild the nest. This evening, I saw some nesting material in the cup.

The pair are being fed in the same manner as for the first nest. During the day, they get dry food and fruit. After 4 pm, crickets and mealworms are offered. Calcium is spread on the fruit 3 days a week and a multi-vitamin and mineral mixture is placed on the fruit for the other 3 days with one day in the week during which no they receive no vitamin or minerals.

Meanwhile the chick from the first nest is eating and growing well.

The Red-whiskered Bulbul chick emerged from the nest yesterday. It was about 9 days old. It is being hand-fed by Magic Devil (Justin) who took the photos below this morning:
